  • The Norton Sound Healthcare Corporation (NSHC) is offering a rare and unique opportunity for an audiologist in training to join our team. This opportunity is open to either a 3rd year or 4th year extern as a 12-month residency in the northwestern coastal rural Bering Strait region. NSHC is a tribally owned and operated, independent, not-for profit organization committed to providing the highest level of evidence-based interprofessional healthcare services. NSHC was founded in 1970 to meet the health care needs of the Inupiat, Siberian Yup’ik and Yu’pik people of the Bering Strait region, offering a cultural experience that is incomparable.

    NSHC serves 16 communities across the 44,000 square-miles of beautiful northwest Alaska. The audiology department operates two outpatient clinics, one in the regional hospital in Nome, AK and another in the sub-regional clinic in Unalakleet, AK. NSHC Audiology also provides services to the region’s 14 other communities through field clinic travel and telehealth. The NSHC audiology department relies on innovative solutions to provide high quality care for patients though out the region, with a strong record of practicing patient-centered care. High quality care requires a workforce with a passion for excellence and interprofessional collaboration. Students rotating through this program will not only have the opportunity to master basic and specialized testing, but will have an unforgettable life experience in serving within the remote reaches of rural Alaska.
