    The UCSF Audiology Department provides comprehensive diagnostic and rehabilitation services for individuals of all ages across three campuses (UCSF Audiology Clinic at Mount Zion Campus, UCSF Balance and Falls Center, and UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital- San Francisco). The Audiology Clinic works closely with the Department of Otolaryngology and the Cochlear Implant Center, and there is typically a rotation for cochlear implants (pending year-to-year funding).

    UCSF Audiology has approximately 7,000 adult visits and 5,000 pediatric visits each year. Services provided at our clinics include:
    • Comprehensive hearing evaluations for adults
    • Pediatric hearing assessments for infants and young children
    • Hearing aid evaluation and fitting utilizing scientifically validated fitting approaches
    • Electrophysiological evaluation including auditory brainstem response testing
    • Comprehensive tinnitus evaluations and treatment for those with persistent bothersome tinnitus
    • Evaluation and treatment of tinnitus, hyperacusis and misophonia
    • Comprehensive vestibular evaluations including VNG, rotational chair evaluation, VEMP, and vHIT

    Externs at UCSF will be provided with 40 hours per week of direct patient contact and additional professional activities. In addition to the wide range and depth of clinical training obtained in the Audiology Clinic, externs will capitalize on the experience of working with the diversity of patients receiving services in the major metropolitan area of San Francisco.

    This externship runs from July 1-June 30. Each year we plan to take 2-4 externs and typically offer a stipend, pending university approval of funding. Please note that students are supervised by a number of our licensed, doctoral-level audiologists, and that UCSF no longer requires staff audiologists to possess the ASHA CCC-A.

    Application Requirements:

    1. Enrollment in an accredited residential Doctor of Audiology program
    2. Eligibility for the California Required Professional Experience (RPE) temporary license
    3. Submission of letter of interest, resume, three current letters of recommendation, and a copy of graduate school transcript
