- If you’re looking for a fourth-year Au.D. externship where you’ll be in the driver’s seat and do more than observe and check boxes, we’d love to talk with you.
Western Colorado Hearing Clinic in Grand Junction, Colorado is looking for a fourth-year Au.D. student who wants a broad clinical experience and the opportunity to become a genuinely confident audiologist before graduation. You’ll work alongside experienced audiologists while gaining hands-on experience with comprehensive diagnostics, hearing aid selection and fitting, real-ear verification, complex troubleshooting, tinnitus and sound-sensitivity care, patient counseling, cognitive-health considerations, and the day-to-day clinical decision-making that doesn’t always make it into a textbook.
We believe a fourth-year externship should be more than just the bridge between being a student and being a practicing clinician; it should be the experience that turns you into a practicing clinician because you had access to a patient case load and mentors to guide you along the way. In our clinic, you’ll receive plenty of mentorship and support at the very beginning, but as soon as your skills develop, we’ll give you increasing independence and responsibility to the extent of having your own patient case load with the autonomy to guide your patients on their healthcare journey by yourself. Our goal is that when you finish your year with us, you won’t just feel ready to walk into your first audiologist position, you’ll have been working as a practicing audiologist all along and doing it with confidence while being fully supported!
The position includes an annual stipend and is based in Grand Junction on Colorado’s Western Slope—an area surrounded by mountains, hiking, skiing, mountain biking, rafting, national parks, and some pretty spectacular places to spend your weekends. The weather here is very mild, low humidity, and ideal for those that like to be adventurous or just enjoy the sunny outdoors.
If you’re looking for a fourth year that will challenge you, support you, and expose you to a wide range of real-world audiology, we’d be happy to tell you more. Strong externs interested in remaining in Western Colorado after graduation may also have an opportunity to be considered for a permanent audiologist position.
