- Our practice offers audiology externs the unique opportunity to work at the full extent of the audiology scope of practice in a dynamic private-practice setting. In addition to comprehensive hearing evaluations and hearing aid services, externs gain hands-on experience with a wide range of diagnostic procedures, including auditory evoked potentials, HIT box and real-ear measurements, extended high-frequency testing, newborn and pediatric assessments utilizing visual reinforcement audiometry and conditioned play audiometry, as well as tinnitus and sound tolerance evaluations.
Externs also participate in comprehensive vestibular assessments, including videonystagmography, cervical vestibular evoked myogenic potentials, caloric testing, rotary chair evaluations, electrocochleography, video head impulse testing, and neurodiagnostic auditory brainstem response testing.
Our clinic partners with the three leading cochlear implant manufacturers, providing cochlear implant evaluations, programming, rehabilitation, and troubleshooting services. As members of the Cochlear Provider Network, we collaborate closely with local otolaryngologists to deliver exceptional, patient-centered care. Externs will also gain valuable experience working with bone-anchored hearing systems and supporting patients throughout their hearing healthcare journey.

Depending on individual interests and opportunities, externs may have the chance to attend industry conferences and educational events, including Audigy’s Summit and Patients for Life conferences, the Academy of Doctors of Audiology’s Audacity conference, the American Academy of Audiology’s annual conference, and additional programs that align with their professional goals.
Community outreach and patient education are integral parts of our mission to promote hearing health for all. Externs may participate in industrial hearing conservation testing for local businesses, community health fairs, “Lunch and Listen” events that allow patients to experience emerging technologies, and educational in-service trainings at area nursing homes. Through these experiences, students develop not only their clinical skills but also a deeper appreciation for the impact audiologists can have within the communities they serve.
Allegany Hearing & Balance is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic audiology extern to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, thrive in a dynamic private practice environment, and demonstrate the flexibility to travel between our two office locations, which are approximately 45 minutes apart. This externship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience working alongside experienced clinicians while serving patients across a diverse range of audiologic needs.
We offer a stipend beginning at $12,000, with opportunities for additional compensation based on experience and individual circumstances.
